The Burnt House
There are many interpretations of this image among Miller’s work. The inspiration for the original painting was a tin type photograph. The image was quite rough, the house may not have even been in such a shamble when the photograph was taken, but years of distress to the image altered the appearance of the house. When Miller adapted the photo initially in 2013 her interpretation was that of a large estate that had been damaged by fire.
A fantastical interpretation
This series of work is unified by the theme of interpretation. Including pieces in varying paint mediums, all of the works have abstract qualities that leave them open to interpretation in some way.
Miller explores the strength and individuality of frame-of-reference. When displayed, each work in the collection is fully realized in any of its interpretations.
