Block Printing

Besides preparing samples for class, Miller also does block printing as a hobby.

She uses her block carved stamps to print on fabric, that often becomes blankets, throw pillows, and curtains.

Prints

Block printing is the process of using an object to make an inked impression on a surface. This object can be carved or uncarved, it could even be a potato! This process is nearly 4,000 years old!

Etching is the use of acid to engrave lines in a metal plate. This is referred to as an intaglio process. These etched lines hold the ink and pass it to the paper when pressed.

Etching

This selection of prints is part of a large collection, who’s overlying themes of obstruction and repetition are evident through out. Miller examines several representations of both themes.

The best representation of the themes in this collection is the yellow perfume bottles print. The repetition of the etching and the uneven distribution of coloring lend themselves to the idea that the view is obscured.
